Pakatan MPs may sue Speaker, youth wing marches to Suhakam to protest suspension

PKR Youth members lead protest march to Suhakam
Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers may sue the BN parliamentary Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia for suspending Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and three other colleagues without proper procedure.

"We will see how we can take this matter to court. We may take him to court. The rules of natural justice were not upheld,” Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh told a press conference.

Karpal, Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah and Gombak MP Azmin Ali were suspended along with Anwar for six months each.

PKR Youth members including the wing's chief Shamsul Iskandar Akin were also present, and upon hearing the outcome, marched from Parliament House to Suhakam, or the Human Rights Commission a few kilometres away, to protest what has been described as another black day for justice and democracy in Malaysia.

Defense not called

The endorsement to freeze Anwar and the other MPs came after the Pakatan had staged a walkout, leaving the BN lawmakers to ‘debate’ among themselves in the parliamentary hall.

Anwar has a word with supporters
The 63-year old Anwar was targeted by Prime Minister Najib Razak, after he questioned in a speech to Parliament earlier this year, why Najib had spent exorbitant fees to hire U.S. based communications firm APCO when it had clear with Zionist links, which was against Malaysia's own foreign policy and hurt the sensitivities of Muslims in the country.

But without calling for his defense and based only on APCO’s own letter of explanation, the Rights and Privileges committee found Anwar guilty of misleading Parliament, and on Thursday, tabled a motion to endorse the committee’s recommendation to suspend him.

Karpal, Siva and Azmin were all been hauled up by Pandikar for defending Anwar over the APCO issue. On Wednesday, Azmin and Siva were again hauled up – this time for trying to push through a motion to debate the recent WikiLeaks exposure that connected Najib to the Altantuya murder.

Minister in the PM’s Department, Nazri Aziz, filed the emergency motion to suspend them late on Wednesday, sparking speculation that the BN had ulterior motives. Pundits have accused them of trying to manipulate a two-third parliamentary majority to endorse the delination of electorate boundaries or gerrymandering ahead of snap polls expected early next year. - Malaysia Chronicle
