The event to celebrate Hari Raya Puasa was the last one he will host there. He hands over the reins to Dr Tony Tan on Sept 1.
Mr Nathan told reporters that he welcomed the conclusion of his 12-year tenure in office and said Dr Tan, is the right man for the job.
'I think he's a highly capable person, very reputable. He's a person who carries himself well and I'm sure he'll be a great asset and pride of Singapore,' said Mr Nathan.
