Singapore to set up national cyber security centre

Singapore will be setting up a new National Cyber Security Centre that will monitor the cyberspace to detect and prevent attacks from hackers and criminals.

The new centre will be announced by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on Wednesday evening when he opens the Singapore Global Dialogue, said Mr Barry Desker, dean of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS).

Mr Desker was speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon about the two-day security dialogue organised by the RSIS.

He said the new centre will come under the Singapore Infocomm Technology Security Authority, a national-level body set up in 2009 to oversee IT security in Singapore.
